Install RVM, Ruby and Rails 1.9.3 on OS X Lion

Quick instructions for installing RVM, Ruby and Rails 1.9.3 on OS X Lion.

  1. Install Xcode from the Mac App Store (4.3.3 is the most current at the time of this post)
  2. Install Xcode command line tools: Open Xcode, then Preferences > Downloads > Command line tools > Install
  3. Install RVM: open a terminal window and enter the command:
    curl -L https://get.rvm.io | bash -s stable --ruby
  4. Install Ruby 1.9.3:
    rvm install 1.9.3
  5. Make Ruby 1.9.3 your default ruby interpreter:
    rvm --default 1.9.3
  6. Install Rails:
    gem install rails
  7. Done.
